KAMPONG EXPERIENCE
LEARNING JOURNEY
BACK TO BASICS
DURATION: 2 hours
VENUE: Kampong Lorong Buangkok
This unique Preschool learning journey allows young children to experience the last remaining village on mainland Singapore, a rare sight that contains a slice of Singapore’s past. Besides introducing kampong houses, we will teach the students how to identify common plants such as banana plants, palm trees, a bamboo grove, and animals such as silkie chickens & kampong fowls. Students will also get to play some old-school kampong games such as Eagle & Chicken game and Zero Point (subject to availability).
LEARNING PEDAGOGY
- As this is a village environment, do be advised of mud, trails of red ants, dirt and rocky terrains without much shelter outdoors and no-air conditioning indoors. There is only one toilet and it is a squatting toilet. There is no nursing/ diaper changing room. We would recommend bringing insect repellent, first aid kit, toilet paper rolls, and plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated.

CULTURAL EXPLORATION

This learning journey takes young learners on an exploration of the Malay/Arab Quarters in Kampong Gelam, offering a deep dive into Malay culture in Singapore. Students will visit the iconic Sultan Mosque, and engage in traditional games like Tin Can Toss and Lereng Hoop Wheeling (subject to availability). Through collaborative learning, students will be encouraged to learn some basic Malay words as well. This interactive educational activity provides a rich cultural experience, fostering an understanding and appreciation of the Malay community’s contributions to Singapore.

CULTURAL EXPLORATION

VENUE: Little India Singapore
An eye-opening Preschool learning journey that takes students through the rich history and vibrant culture of Singapore’s Indian community in Little India. Students will trace the movement of early Indian immigrants from Chulia Street to Serangoon and explore the colourful streets filled with shops selling traditional Indian goods. They will experience the lively atmosphere of the area before visiting the Indian Heritage Centre to gain deeper insights into the community’s contributions to Singapore’s multicultural fabric.

LEARNING JOURNEY
CULTURAL EXPLORATION
DURATION: 2 hours
VENUE: Chinatown Singapore
This learning journey introduces young children to the history of early Chinese immigrants in Singapore. They will explore traditional shophouses, learn about jobs of the past like trishaw pullers and opera performers, and visit a historic Cantonese Opera Theatre (exterior only). Students will also get to admire a street art mural by a local artist that reflects life in olden-day Chinatown. The tour ends with a visit to Kreta Ayer Heritage Gallery and a hands-on Heritage Hunt, where students will learn to recognise key landmarks that fosters engagement and familiarisation with Chinatown’s history.
